Aboutthe Role As a Scala Developer atPropel, you will be part of building high-performance, scalable data processingplatforms that support complex business and regulatory workflows. You will workclosely with domain experts, architects, and engineering teams to design anddeliver distributed data solutions that enable analytics, automation, andlarge-scale data processing. This role is ideal forengineers with strong Spark and Scala expertise who enjoy working onhigh-volume, performance-critical systems. KeyResponsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable applications using Scala and ApacheSpark. Build and optimize distributed data processing pipelines using RDDs,DataFrames, and Datasets. Write efficient transformation and action logic using in-memory processingtechniques. Optimize existing codebases for performance, scalability, and resourceefficiency. Work on high-volume data processing use cases involving millions ofrecords per transaction. Develop and maintain Spark notebooks and batch processing workflows. Integrate third-party libraries and APIs into Scala-based applications. Perform developer-level testing, performance testing, and load testing. Participate actively in system design, architecture discussions, andtechnical decision-making. Review team members\code and provide feedback on performance, security,and coding standards. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to improve teamproductivity. Troubleshoot production issues and participate in root cause analysis. Prepare technical documentation including design notes, test cases, effortestimations, and work breakdown structures (WBS). Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies andparticipate in daily stand-ups and sprint ceremonies. Maintain regular status reporting and delivery tracking. WhatWe\re Looking For Bachelor\degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a relatedfield. 3 to 5 years of strong hands-on experience in Scala development withApache Spark. Strong experience working with Spark RDDs, DataFrames, and Datasets. Solid understanding of distributed computing concepts and big dataplatforms such as Databricks. Experience working with high-volume data systems and large-scale batchprocessing workloads. Good understanding of relational databases and read/write performanceoptimization. Basic exposure to NoSQL databases such as Cassandra or Astra. Experience using development tools such as IntelliJ IDEA. Familiarity with GitHub, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and releasemanagement workflows. Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agiledevelopment practices. Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Awareness of information security best practices. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively. Preferred Experience with cloud-based data platforms and Spark workloads on Azure orsimilar cloud environments. Exposure to automated testing frameworks and test-driven developmentpractices. Experience with performance tuning and memory optimization in distributedsystems. Familiarity with enterprise data governance and compliance-driven dataplatforms.
