About the role
Job Title and Overview We are hiring a Software Engineer in Test (SDET) to design and build scalable automated test solutions that ensure product quality across web services and APIs. In this role, you will partner closely with Software Engineers, Product, and DevOps to embed testing into the development lifecycle and improve release confidence through modern QA engineering practices. Location & Work Mode Work Mode: Remote. This role supports a distributed engineering team with core collaboration hours aligned to North American time zones. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain automated test frameworks for UI, API, and integration testing with a focus on reliability and maintainability. Build robust end-to-end test suites integrated into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions/Jenkins), including parallel execution and test reporting. Create and execute test strategies for new features, including risk-based testing, test plans, and release sign-off criteria. Develop API test coverage (REST/GraphQL) including contract testing, schema validation, and negative/edge-case coverage. Collaborate with engineers to improve testability (e.g., adding hooks, feature flags, deterministic test data, observability signals). Analyze flaky tests and production defects; drive root-cause analysis and implement preventative quality controls. Implement test data management approaches (synthetic data generation, fixtures, environment seeding) for reliable automated runs. Mentor junior QA/SDET team members and promote quality engineering best practices (shift-left testing, code reviews for tests, standardization). Required Skills & Experience 5+ years of experience in QA Automation / SDET roles with strong engineering fundamentals. Proficiency in at least one modern language: Java, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, or C#. Hands-on experience with UI automation tools such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium. Strong API testing experience using RestAssured, Postman/Newman, pytest, or similar frameworks. CI/CD experience integrating automated tests (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) and generating actionable reports. Experience with test design techniques, mocking/service virtualization, and creating maintainable test suites (Page Object/Screenplay patterns). Solid knowledge of Git, code review workflows, and Agile/Scrum practices. Working knowledge of SQL and validating data across services and persistence layers. Education & Certifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). Preferred certifications include ISTQB (Foundation/Advanced) , AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (or Associate-level), or relevant automation/testing certifications. Additional Information You’ll join a collaborative, remote-first engineering culture that values ownership, clear communication, and continuous improvement. Benefits typically include flexible working hours, home-office stipend, health coverage options, paid time off, and learning & development support (courses, certifications, conference budget). This role offers growth into Staff SDET/Quality Engineering leadership, platform test infrastructure ownership, or broader reliability initiatives. Salary Range (Estimated) For a remote SDET with 5 years of experience, the estimated annual base salary range is $110,000–$150,000 USD , depending on location, skills depth, and interview performance.
