Job Title: Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) — 5+ Years Overview: We are seeking an experienced SDET to design, build, and maintain scalable automated test solutions for web and API-based platforms. This role partners closely with Software Engineers, Product, and DevOps to improve release quality, reduce regression time, and strengthen CI/CD quality gates through modern test engineering practices. Location & Work Mode: Dallas, Texas (Hybrid). Candidates should be able to work onsite for key ceremonies and cross-team collaboration while maintaining flexibility for focused remote execution. Key Responsibilities: Design and implement automated test frameworks for UI, API, and integration testing (e.g., Selenium/Cypress, REST-assured/Postman/Newman). Build robust test suites including smoke, regression, and end-to-end scenarios aligned to product risk and release cadence. Develop and maintain test utilities, fixtures, mocks/stubs, and reusable libraries to improve test reliability and speed. Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins/GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps) with quality gates, reporting, and failure triage. Collaborate with developers to shift-left testing via code reviews, testability improvements, and definition-of-done quality criteria. Own defect lifecycle: reproduce issues, provide actionable root-cause analysis, and validate fixes across environments. Drive test data management strategies, environment health checks, and observability for test runs (logs/metrics). Mentor junior QA/SDETs on automation best practices, coding standards, and test architecture decisions. Required Skills & Experience: 5+ years of experience as an SDET/Automation Engineer with strong software engineering fundamentals. Proficiency in Java or C# (preferred), with solid understanding of OOP, data structures, and clean code practices. Hands-on experience with UI automation (Selenium WebDriver or Cypress/Playwright) and API automation (REST-assured or equivalent). Strong knowledge of test design techniques (boundary/value analysis, risk-based testing) and agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban). CI/CD integration experience using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps; familiarity with build tools (Maven/Gradle/NuGet). Experience with version control (Git) and test reporting (Allure/ExtentReports) plus debugging in distributed systems. Working knowledge of SQL and database validation; ability to validate data pipelines and service interactions. Understanding of containerization and test execution in Docker; familiarity with cloud environments (AWS/Azure) is a plus. Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience). Preferred certifications: ISTQB (Foundation/Advanced), AWS Certified Developer/Cloud Practitioner, or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900). Additional Information: Culture focused on engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and automation-first quality practices. Benefits may include medical/dental/vision, 401(k), paid time off, learning budget, and opportunities to grow into QA Lead/SDET Architect roles. Modern tooling stack with emphasis on scalable automation, fast feedback loops, and shared ownership of quality. Salary Range: Approx. $115,000 – $145,000 USD per year (Dallas market, depending on experience, technical depth, and interview performance), plus potential bonus/benefits.
