Principal Engineer/Architect - Ruby on Rails

As a Principal Engineer at our fast-scaling company, you will play a pivotal role in architecting systems, elevating engineering standards, and collaborating closely with Product & Leadership to influence the company's technical trajectory. Your responsibilities will include: Role Overview: - Designing and owning scalable, secure, and high-performance systems using Ruby on Rails (backend) and modern frontend frameworks like React. - Architecting cloud-native infrastructure on AWS or other leading cloud platforms, incorporating services such as EC2, EKS, RDS, and SQS/SNS. - Driving system design for high-availability, distributed systems and data-heavy applications. - Leading major technical decisions and defining the long-term engineering roadmap. Key Responsibilities: - Contributing significantly to production code across backend and frontend. - Reviewing code, enhancing engineering standards, and enforcing best practices. - Optimizing performance, reliability, and scalability across the entire stack. - Enhancing CI/CD pipelines, observability, testing, and DevOps practices. - Mentoring senior and mid-level engineers to elevate code quality and foster a culture of system ownership. - Collaborating with Product, Design, and Business teams to transform ambiguous requirements into scalable technical solutions. Qualifications Required: - 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong system design background. - Proficiency in Ruby on Rails in production-scale environments. - Hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, Angular, or similar). - Solid understanding of AWS or other major cloud platforms, including architecture, scaling, and cost optimization. - Experience in designing microservices/service-oriented architectures. - Deep knowledge of databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), caching (Redis), and messaging systems. - Demonstrated ability to lead large technical initiatives end-to-end. - Startup experience is preferred, especially in early-stage or scaling environments.
