Job Description Job Title: SME - Sensors, Valves & Instrumentation Location: Sky One Corporate Park, Pune, Maharashtra, India Department: Engineering / Product Development Experience: 7-12 Years (HVAC / Process Industry / Thermal Systems Preferred) Job Summary We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Sensors, Valves, and Instrumentation to lead the selection, specification, and integration of field instrumentation for Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs) and Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx) used in data center cooling applications. This role will focus on end-to-end instrumentation design , including sensor selection, valve selection, system integration, and performance optimization , ensuring high reliability, accuracy, and robustness of thermal management systems. Key Responsibilities 1. Sensors & Instrumentation Engineering : Lead selection and specification of field instruments: Temperature sensors (NTC, PT100/RTD, thermocouples) Pressure transmitters (gauge, absolute, differential) Flow sensors/meters (ultrasonic, electromagnetic, turbine) Level sensors Leak detection systems Define and optimize: Sensor accuracy, repeatability, and response time Sensor placement within CDU loops for best performance Measurement philosophy and redundancy (dual sensors, voting logic) Prepare: Instrument datasheets and technical specifications Vendor evaluations and technical comparisons Ensure: Compatibility with control systems (4-20 mA, 0-10V, digital protocols) Suitability for operating conditions (glycol systems, condensation, IP ratings) 2. Valves & Flow Control Systems Selection and sizing of valves: PIBCV (Pressure Independent Balancing Control Valves) Control valves and actuators Isolation and balancing valves Define valve control strategies: Flow balancing and optimization Integration with VFD-driven pump systems Work closely with mechanical teams for hydronic system optimization 3. System Integration & Controls Interface Ensure seamless integration of sensors and valves with PLC/HMI systems Support configuration of communication protocols: Modbus RTU/TCP BACnet CAN / Ethernet Collaborate with control engineers for: Control logic validation Signal mapping and I/O definition 4. Testing, Commissioning & Validation Define and execute: Instrument validation and calibration procedures FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test) Support: System commissioning and troubleshooting Root cause analysis of sensor or control issues Ensure long-term reliability of instrumentation systems 5. Documentation & Standards Develop and maintain: Instrument datasheets and selection reports Loop diagrams and I/O lists Input to control philosophy and FDS Support P&IDs in coordination with mechanical teams Ensure compliance with: ASHRAE guidelines IEC / UL standards Required Skills & Competencies Strong expertise in: Sensor selection and instrumentation design Valve selection and hydronic system understanding Good working knowledge of: Thermal systems (HVAC, chilled water, glycol systems) Pumps, heat exchangers, and fluid systems Hands-on understanding of: Signal types (4-20 mA, 0-10V, digital communication) Measurement accuracy, error analysis, and calibration Basic to intermediate experience in: PLC / control systems integration (Siemens / Allen Bradley / Schneider / Carel) HMI/SCADA systems Ability to read and interpret: P&IDs Instrumentation diagrams Electrical schematics Preferred Qualifications Experience in: Cooling systems or critical cooling applications Leak detection systems in datacentre or similar environments Familiarity with: Redundancy design (N+1, 2N systems) BMS/DCIM integration Education Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation / Electrical / Control Engineering Master's Degree (preferred but not mandatory) Key Deliverables Accurate and optimized sensor and valve selection Robust and reliable instrumentation design High system uptime and measurement accuracy Complete and standards-compliant documentation
