Ab Initio Developer

Strong experience with Ab Initio, ETL/ELT development, AWS (Glue, Redshift, Kafka), Cloudera/Hadoop ecosystem, SQL, shell scripting, and data warehouse architecture — preferably within healthcare or federal environments

OVERVIEW:

Our Federal Healthcare client is seeking an experienced Ab Initio Developer to join their Data Integration team. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on engineer with a strong background in ETL/ELT development, data architecture, and cloud/hybrid infrastructure. This role focuses on building scalable, secure, and high-performance data pipelines that support enterprise-level data warehouse and business intelligence platforms.

The right candidate will bring a mix of deep technical expertise, leadership in solution design, and familiarity with both on-premise and cloud data environments. This is a high-impact role working on strategic initiatives to deliver clean, actionable data to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement data integration frameworks leveraging Ab Initio and cloud-native technologies .

• Develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and optimize performance for large-scale data environments.

• Lead data modeling and architecture efforts; support dimensional modeling , OLAP , and de-normalized structures .

• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, analytics, and DevOps teams to deliver production-ready solutions.

• Support data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) using Hadoop-based platforms such as Cloudera , HDFS , Hive , and Impala .

• Maintain code quality through unit testing, documentation, and adherence to best practices.

• Interpret large datasets to generate insights and support key business decisions.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies, project planning, and performance tuning efforts.

• REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

• 8+ years in data engineering and ETL/ELT solution development

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Ab Initio

• AWS experience, especially with data services like Glue, Redshift, Kafka

• 2+ years experience working with Cloudera or other Hadoop-based platforms

• Strong proficiency with SQL , JPA , and performance tuning of complex queries

• Knowledge of CDC (Change Data Capture) using Ab Initio

• Experience with Unix/Linux shell scripting

• Working knowledge of Java is a plus

• Familiarity with Agile development and CI/CD practices

• Understanding of OLTP vs. OLAP , data warehouse fundamentals, and big data architecture

• Ability to independently troubleshoot and mentor junior developers

• Preferred:

• Java development experience

• Hands-on experience with secure coding and production support

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate technical topics to non-technical stakeholders
