About the role
Title: Junior Azure Databricks Engineer
Description:
We're seeking a Junior Azure Databricks Engineer to join our data team on a contract basis. This role is perfect for someone with foundational experience in Azure cloud , Databricks , and data engineering pipelines , who is ready to contribute to real-world enterprise analytics and big data platforms.
You'll work closely with senior engineers and analysts to support and develop data processing workflows, optimize performance, and help maintain production data environments.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Databricks (Spark)
Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to transform raw data into analytics-ready datasets
Write and optimize PySpark or SQL code for performance and scalability
Support data ingestion from Azure Data Lake, Blob Storage, and other cloud sources
Monitor and troubleshoot jobs, clusters, and pipelines
Document workflows, datasets, and system configurations
Work in agile teams, using tools like Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines
Qualifications

1–3 years of experience in a data engineering or analytics engineering role

Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks , Spark, or related distributed compute platforms

Proficient in SQL and at least one programming language (e.g., Python or Scala )

Familiarity with Azure data services: Data Lake , Blob Storage , Data Factory , Synapse

Basic understanding of data modeling and performance optimization

Comfortable working with Git and version control

Strong communication skills and desire to learn

Must be based in Toronto or Greater Toronto Area
