Senior Azure Platform Engineer – AI Enablement & Internal Developer Platforms (Contract)

Overview

Our client is expanding its internal AI and innovation capabilities and is seeking an experienced Azure Platform Engineer to design and implement a secure self-service application deployment platform.

The goal is to enable non-technical and semi-technical users leveraging AI development tools such as Claude, Cursor, Lovable, and other AI-assisted coding platforms to deploy experimental applications into governed Azure environments without requiring Azure or DevOps expertise.

This role will be responsible for architecting and implementing a complete solution spanning user-facing deployment portals, Azure DevOps automation, Azure Deployment Environments (ADE), security guardrails, governance controls, and operational visibility.

Required Qualifications

7+ years of Azure engineering, cloud infrastructure, or platform engineering experience.

Deep expertise with:

Microsoft Azure

Azure DevOps

Azure Deployment Environments (ADE)

Azure App Service

Azure Static Web Apps

Microsoft Entra ID

Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code:

Bicep

ARM

Terraform

Experience building Internal Developer Platforms (IDP) or self-service provisioning solutions.

Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps YAML.

Strong understanding of Azure governance, RBAC, managed identities, and cloud security controls.

Experience integrating enterprise authentication and SSO solutions.

Excellent stakeholder communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting AI-driven application development initiatives.

• Familiarity with AI development tools including:

• Anthropic Claude

• Cursor

• Lovable

• GitHub Copilot

• Experience with Microsoft Power Platform.

• Experience with Azure Container Apps and containerized deployment models.

• Experience implementing cost governance and FinOps practices.

• Background designing developer portals or self-service platform experiences.

• Experience with Backstage or similar Internal Developer Portal frameworks.
