About the role
Senior IoT Systems Architect Location: Sunnyvale – Onsite 5 days/week Duration: Contract until Dec 2026 Visa: USC / GC / F1 / H4 (No H1B)
Role Overview
Intuitive Surgical is looking for a Senior IoT Systems Architect who will work on medical device connectivity and cloud integration .
This is a 50% Architecture + 50% Hands-on Coding role involving C++ and Python development to connect embedded medical devices to cloud platforms using MQTT protocol and AWS services .
The engineer will work closely with cybersecurity, product, and engineering teams to design scalable and secure IoT connectivity systems .
Key Responsibilities
Design and expand MQTT-based IoT architecture for embedded medical devices.
Build connectivity middleware and communication services in C++ and Python .
Design AWS cloud integrations using services like EC2 and S3 .
Implement secure device connectivity using:
TLS / mTLS
Certificate-based authentication
PKI lifecycle management
Develop reliable messaging strategies including:
Offline buffering
Reconnect strategies
Message deduplication
Produce technical documentation including:
Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)
System diagrams
Interface contracts
Participate in design reviews and debugging of connectivity issues .
Required Skills
10+ years Software Engineering experience
5+ years IoT architecture experience
Strong C++ development
Python development
MQTT expertise
Broker configuration
QoS levels
Topic hierarchy
Retained messages
MQTT 5.0 features
Experience with AWS cloud services
Strong understanding of:
Pub/Sub messaging
Network security
TLS / PKI / device authentication
Experience with embedded systems
Preferred Skills
Experience in regulated industries (medical, aerospace, industrial)
Experience with asynchronous / event-driven systems
Knowledge of cloud observability tools like CloudWatch
Experience with risk analysis or FMEA
