Software Engineer

Key responsibilities include:

Developing high-quality, well-documented, and production-ready code

Designing scalable, secure web and mobile solutions aligned with NYC digital architecture

Collaborating with cross-functional teams (engineering, product, design) in an agile environment

Implementing unit testing and ensuring code quality standards

Building responsive, accessible frontend platforms aligned with the NYC Design System

Integrating systems with existing NYC data services and reporting infrastructure

Ensuring compliance with privacy-by-design and security best practices

Supporting technical architecture decisions and contributing to engineering strategies

Mandatory Requirements — Candidates must meet all of the following criteria:

Minimum 4 years of experience as a software engineer or application developer

Proven experience in full-stack web development (responsive web applications)

Experience collaborating with product designers in cross-functional teams

Proficiency with Git-based workflows

Experience with Agile/story-based workflows (e.g., JIRA, Azure DevOps, Trello)

Demonstrated ability to lead technical design and create implementation plans

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications — The following experience is highly desirable

• Experience integrating with design system libraries

• Experience in mobile app development (iOS and Android)

• Knowledge of privacy-first engineering and modern security protocols

• Experience working within large-scale enterprise or government systems

• Familiarity with legacy system integration
