Staffing - Measurements Engineer III: Optical Metrology & Machine Vision Engineer

About the Role
Join Corning’s advanced manufacturing team as an Optical Metrology and Machine Vision Engineer. Drive innovation by designing and deploying state-of-the-art measurement systems leveraging optical metrology, image processing, and machine learning. Responsibilities

Design, build, and test advanced measurement systems using optical metrology and machine vision for manufacturing and quality control.

Develop and implement image processing algorithms for feature extraction, classification, and metrology.

Train and deploy machine learning models to enhance measurement system performance and reliability.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and integrate systems into manufacturing workflows.

Lead technology transfer from early-stage development to full-scale manufacturing deployment.

Create clear documentation, including system specifications, operating procedures, and software manuals.

Train engineers, maintenance, and operations teams on system use and troubleshooting.

Optimize and troubleshoot measurement systems using data analysis and field support, both onsite and remotely.

Domestic and international travel (10-30%) required for project support and system deployment.

Required Skills and Experience
-
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

7+ years’ hands-on experience with optical systems, imaging hardware, and measurement instruments.

Strong programming proficiency in Python or C# for data manipulation and system integration.

Proficient in machine vision algorithms: blob analysis, edge detection, morphology, feature extraction, classification.

Experience with machine learning techniques (CNNs, traditional methods) for measurement enhancement.

Skilled in data analysis tools: Excel, MATLAB, or Python.

Familiarity with Halcon, OpenCV, or LabVIEW for software development.

Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

Preferred Skills

Advanced expertise in optical metrology (3D measurement, lasers, physical optics).

Motion control systems and imaging platform experience.

Knowledge of statistical analysis and process improvement (DOE).

Familiarity with database management and high-performance computing.

Experience supporting manufacturing operations with metrology and inspection systems.
