Java Software Engineer

Job Title: Java Software Engineer (Backend) — 5+ Years Overview: We are seeking an experienced Java Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable backend services for business-critical applications. In this role, you will work closely with product, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver secure, high-performance APIs and microservices, contributing to architecture decisions and mentoring junior engineers. Location & Work Mode: Chennai, Tamil Nadu (Hybrid). Candidates should be based in Chennai or willing to relocate and work from office as required for sprint ceremonies and collaboration. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop RESTful APIs and backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and related frameworks. Build and maintain microservices with clear domain boundaries, versioning strategy, and backward compatibility. Implement data access layers using JPA/Hibernate and write optimized SQL for relational databases. Ensure application security with OAuth2/JWT, secure coding practices, and vulnerability remediation. Write unit/integration tests (JUnit 5, Mockito) and contribute to automated CI pipelines for quality gates. Monitor and troubleshoot production issues using logs/metrics/traces; perform root-cause analysis and implement preventive fixes. Collaborate with DevOps to containerize services (Docker) and support deployments on Kubernetes/cloud environments. Participate in code reviews, enforce engineering standards, and mentor junior developers on best practices. Required Skills & Experience: 5+ years of hands-on backend development experience in Java (preferably Java 11+). Strong experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and building REST APIs. Experience with Hibernate/JPA, database design, and performance tuning. Solid knowledge of multithreading, concurrency, JVM fundamentals, and performance optimization. Testing expertise with JUnit, Mockito, and API testing tools (Postman/RestAssured). Working knowledge of CI/CD (Jenkins/GitHub Actions/GitLab CI), Git, and code quality tools (SonarQube). Exposure to messaging systems (Kafka/RabbitMQ) and caching (Redis) is a plus. Understanding of Agile/Scrum, estimation, and delivery in iterative sprints. Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related engineering discipline. Preferred certifications: Oracle Certified Professional (OCP Java SE), AWS Certified Developer – Associate, or Spring Professional Certification.
