About the role
About the internship: About Gray Gray is building the next generation of intelligent commercial electric vehicles for emerging markets. Our mission is to develop commercial EVs that set new benchmarks in safety, reliability, uptime, quality, and total cost of ownership. As a Product Quality & Reliability Engineering Intern, you will work directly with experienced product engineers, suppliers, manufacturing partners, and founders to build products that meet global automotive quality standards from day one. This is not a conventional quality internship. You will help design quality into the product rather than inspect quality after it is built. Role Overview You will support the engineering team in improving product quality, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and durability across vehicle systems including chassis, body, battery systems, thermal systems, powertrain, interiors, and electrical components. You will work across design, supplier development, validation, manufacturing, and field quality to ensure every component meets Gray's quality expectations before reaching customers. Key Responsibilities -Design Quality -Review product designs from a quality and reliability perspective. -Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Serviceability (DFS), and Design for Reliability (DFR) activities. -Identify potential quality risks early in the product development cycle. -Participate in engineering design reviews. -Reliability Engineering -Support reliability planning for vehicle systems and components. -Assist in identifying failure mechanisms and root causes. -Analyze component life, fatigue, wear, corrosion, vibration, thermal, and environmental risks. -Support durability improvement initiatives. -FMEA & Risk Analysis Prepare and maintain: -Design FMEA (DFMEA) -Process FMEA (PFMEA) -Control Plans -Risk registers -Track closure of identified risks with engineering teams. -Supplier Quality -Work closely with component suppliers to improve incoming part quality. -Review supplier drawings, specifications, manufacturing processes, and quality documentation. -Participate in supplier quality assessments and APQP activities. -Follow up on corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Validation & Testing -Prepare validation plans for vehicle subsystems. -Assist in component, subsystem, and vehicle testing. -Analyze test failures and recommend corrective actions. -Maintain validation reports and engineering documentation. Manufacturing Quality -Support manufacturing process reviews. -Improve assembly quality through DFM/DFA recommendations. -Assist in developing inspection standards and quality checkpoints. -Identify opportunities to reduce defects and improve process capability. -Continuous Improvement -Perform root cause analysis using structured problem-solving tools. Support implementation of corrective actions. -Participate in Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives. -Help establish best practices and design standards for future products. Preferred understanding of: -Mechanical Design -Manufacturing Processes -Automotive Engineering -GD&T -Engineering Drawings -Material Selection -Sheet Metal Design -Plastic Component Design -Reliability Engineering fundamentals -Statistical Quality Control -Root Cause Analysis -DFMEA -PFMEA -APQP -PPAP -Control Plans -MSA -SPC -Design Reviews -Tolerance Stack-up -Fastener Design -Failure Analysis -Vehicle Validation -Design Verification Knowledge of automotive standards such as IATF 16949, AIAG Core Tools, ISO 9001, or ISO 26262 is an added advantage but not mandatory. Exposure to one or more of: -SolidWorks / CATIA / Creo / NX -Microsoft Excel -PowerPoint -Minitab (optional) -Jira / Confluence (optional) Who can apply: Only those candidates can apply who: are available for full time (in-office) internship can start the internship between 12th Jul'26 and 2nd Sep'26 are available for duration of 6 months have relevant skills and interests are Computer Science Engineering students Stipend: INR₹ 10,000 - 15,000 /month Deadline: 2026-09-02 23:59:59 Other perks: Certificate, Letter of recommendation, Informal dress code Skills required: Product Development and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Other Requirements: What We Are Looking For -Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. -Curiosity to understand why products fail and how to make them better. -High attention to detail. -Excellent documentation skills. -Ability to collaborate with design engineers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams. -Willingness to visit suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and test locations. -Passion for building world-class products rather than merely completing assigned tasks. Eligibility B.E. / B.Tech. Expected Graduation: 2027 Preferred Branches: Mechanical, Production, Mechatronics CGPA: Strong academic record preferred. During this internship, you will gain practical exposure to: -End-to-end automotive product development -Global automotive quality systems -Supplier quality management -Product validation and testing -Design reviews with cross-functional teams -Reliability engineering methodologies -FMEA and risk management -Manufacturing engineering -APQP and PPAP -Vehicle quality planning -Root cause analysis -Building products for zero-defect manufacturing -Success in This Role By the end of your internship, you should have contributed to developing commercial electric vehicles that are: -Safer -More reliable -Easier to manufacture -Easier to assemble -Easier to service -More durable -Lower in lifetime ownership cost -Built with a "quality by design" mindset rather than relying on end-of-line inspection About Company: Gray Mobility is building innovative, sustainable and technology-first electric mobility solutions, including electric vans and trucks, for the Indian and export markets. We are in an exciting stage of growth, developing products, establishing strategic partnerships, and scaling operations across regions.
