About the Role
Join the Department of Information Resources (DIR) as a Senior Database Administrator III and play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing enterprise-level database environments for mission-critical state applications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a dynamic Agile setting, supporting Full-stack Java applications on cloud platforms (Azure/AWS). Lead database migration initiatives, performance tuning, data modeling, and ensure high availability and disaster recovery for large-scale systems.
Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain logical and physical data models for enterprise applications

Lead migration of Oracle databases to Azure SQL, including schema conversion and stored procedure transformation

Optimize and monitor database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks

Execute advanced database administration tasks: tuning, indexing, upgrades, patching, user management, and security

Oversee data backup, disaster recovery, clustering for high availability, and data replication to secondary sites

Ensure compliance with EIR Accessibility standards and support users with accessibility-related database issues

Create and manage test environments, libraries, and procedures for application development teams

Collaborate with developers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure data integrity and system integration

Develop and enforce database policies and standards, including data dictionary management

Required Skills and Experience
-
10+ years of hands-on database administration experience
-
8+ years expertise with Oracle and Microsoft SQL (or similar RDBMS)
-
Extensive experience in relational database administration, design, analysis, and performance tuning
-
Strong background in enterprise application design, technical/functional documentation, and Agile (Scrum) methodologies
-
Proficient in multi-tier system/application development (SOA, Microservices, 3-Tier)

Demonstrated experience with database security, backup, disaster recovery, and high availability
-
Solid knowledge of EIR Accessibility standards and assistive technologies

Preferred Skills
-
Experience managing large volume databases and high availability/disaster recovery infrastructure
-
Working knowledge of Azure cloud platform and ETL processes into Azure SQL
-
Familiarity with DevOps tools (CI/CD, Git) and Java/J2EE enterprise development
-
Azure and DBA Associate certifications
